THE Bulawayo Division One Women’s Soccer League kicks off this afternoon. Eight teams have confirmed participation in the league which include Lee Mangena’s Street Set, ZRP Bulawayo, Inline Academy, Hillside Teachers’ College, Cowdray Park Queens, Magwegwe Stars and Discovery which is based in Victoria Falls.
Fixtures’ secretary Bhekinkosi Ndlovu said they are bracing for a new and competitive season.
“We have high expectations this season, as we want to get everything right from the start. So we encourage all clubs to register their players so that we won’t have any squabbles like what happened last season,” said Ndlovu.
Street Set lost a number of players to Inline Academy without any transfer agreements and that created a dispute between the two clubs.
Ndlovu said they are working tirelessly to get sponsors for the league, as they have played for a long time without support.
“We had promises from companies, we hope they will fulfil their promises and the National Railways of Zimbabwe have also come on board when our teams are travelling to Victoria Falls to reduce fees,” he said.
Last season clubs were only handed soccer balls, caps and T-shirts for their efforts.
Hwange Colliery ladies are the defending champions.
The games will kick off with Magwegwe Stars taking on Cowdray Park while Street Set would be away to Inline Academy.
The game between Hillside and Sigola has been postponed to allow both clubs to finalise their players’ registration.
