BOARD members and officials from the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe have signed integrity pledges reaffirming their commitment to combating corruption and enhancing transparency and accountability.

The ceremony, held in Harare and overseen by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) led by ZACC General Manager, Prevention and Corporate Governance, Mrs Clara Nyakotyo, involved board members and senior officials from the CAAZ,

including CAAZ deputy board chairperson Mr Joshua Muhwati.

Integrity pledges serve as social contracts where individuals commit to act against corruption.

In her speech, ZACC general manager, Prevention and Corporate Governance, Mrs Nyakotyo commended CAAZ for its positive response to the commission’s enforcement of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) through spearheading the signing of

integrity pledges.

“The need to reinforce integrity in our institutions and systems cannot be overemphasised, particularly considering the realised expansion and growth in the aviation industry, and it is thus our responsibility to ensure that we continue working together to ensure

stability and corruption-free regulation of institutions,” she said.

“ZACC is taking the lead in championing the concept of inculcating integrity in the public and private sectors as a strategy to groom virtuous officials who can serve their country with integrity. Integrity is the foundation upon which all effective public service rests.

“Today’s integrity pledge signing ceremony is testimony to the inevitable and consolidated partnership between our two esteemed institutions (ZACC and CAAZ). Our partnership in combating corruption, as espoused in the NACS framework, remains solid as we

journey towards fulfilling the goals and objectives of the National Development Strategy.”

Mrs Nyakotyo said she was motivated to note that the signing of integrity pledges by CAAZ officials, a cornerstone in the aviation industry, will undoubtedly inspire other institutions and organisations in the aviation sector to emulate this enviable proactive action

against corruption.

“It is my conviction that today’s pledge marks the beginning of an integrity-inspired approach to duty, as you execute the key functions of CAAZ as a regulator,” she said.

“Such huge national and regulatory responsibility requires individuals with high levels of integrity. By signing the Integrity Pledge, you are demonstrating your determination to uphold the huge tasks before you.

“As we celebrate this important commitment to integrity by members of CAAZ, I would like to implore and encourage CAAZ to consider establishing and operationalising a dedicated integrity committee as a permanent institutional mechanism for promoting,

monitoring, and supporting ethical behaviour throughout the organisation.

“CAAZ’s commitment to integrity will be extended and reflected not only to your colleagues and your organisation but to every citizen and every passenger whose safety heavily relies on your integrity and professionalism.

“In conclusion, I would like once again to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the CAAZ Board and Management for the collaboration with ZACC as we march towards having a citizenry and institutions that uphold integrity and good governance for a corruption-free

Zimbabwe.”
