Caf meets to assess Morocco’s readiness for 2022 Wafcon

THE Caf executive committee met in Casablanca, Morocco, yesterday to assess the country’s preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon).

The meeting was chaired by Caf president Patrice Motsepe and it comes a month before the tournament begins.

Ahead of the continental showdown, Caf conducted the draw in Rabat, the results of which lined up mouthwatering clashes pitting some of the continent’s giants against each other.

Twelve teams will participate in the event that is scheduled to run from July 2-23.

Host nation Morocco has been pooled in Group A alongside Burkina Faso, Senegal and Uganda.

Group B has Cameroon, Zambia, Tunisia and Togo.

Record 11-time champions Nigeria are in Group C alongside South Africa, Burundi and Botswana.

The first match will be played on July 2 at Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex between hosts Morocco and Burkina Faso.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons, looking to add onto their 11 titles, will begin their campaign against South Africa’s Banyana Banyana.

Ahead of the continental tournament, football stakeholders have expressed hope for a good competition.

“We are expecting a very good game for the month of July,” said Kanizat Ibrahim, chairperson of the Caf Women’s Football Organising Committee.

“Caf has been working so hard to develop women’s football and offer more opportunities of play. Now, we hope that the teams will be in good shape and that we will have a great show,” he added. — Cgtn.com
