VISITING Confederation of African Football president Patrice Motsepe is set to meet President Mnangagwa at State House in Harare on Friday afternoon.
Motsepe is in the country as a special guest for the CAF African Schools Football Championship, a week-long football fiesta that concludes today at Ngoni Stadium in Norton.
Before meeting the President, Motsepe is expected to conduct a special signing ceremony for the boys’ and girls’ Under-15 football tournament with ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi.
The CAF Schools Football Championship is the third key tournament in six months that Zimbabwe has hosted in the 15 months since the inauguration of the Magwizi-led ZIFA leadership.
Zimbabwe have staged the COSAFA Boys Under-17 tournament at Ngoni and Heart Stadiums, followed by the CAF Girls Under-17 GIFT Cup, and then the ongoing schools competition, whose group games have captured the imagination amid the enthusiasm and some spectacular goals from the teenage players.
CAF supremo Motsepe is expected to watch the third-place play-off and final to conclude this legacy boys’ and girls’ football tournament, which underscores his vision of helping the African game grow.
Launched in April 2022, the CAF African Schools Football Championship has quickly become one of CAF’s flagship youth development initiatives, celebrating talent, education, and opportunity for young boys and girls across the African continent.
