Following his big win at the Zimbabwe Hip Hop awards which irked some artistes in Harare who felt they deserved the accolades, Bulawayo’s Cal_Vin has released a diss track to warn those doubting his talent.
Similar to the AKA and Cassper beef which ended with diss tracks, Cal_Vin is not tolerating those insulting and challenging his awards. In true hip hop fashion Cal_Vin this week responded to Junior Brown and Briss Mbada with the release of The Warning, a strongly worded song.
Cal_Vin scooped the Best male artiste, Album of the year and Song of the year awards. Junior Brown was against Cal_Vin’s Song of the year award as he felt that Maria was the best song while Mbada believed he was simply the best male artiste in the country.
On the track Cal_Vin labels himself the new King of Zimbabwe Hip-hop, having knocked off Junior Brown’s Few Kings group.
“I’m on my victory lap because a n**** did it, catching all these X & O’s while you catching feelings. I’m a new king though a few still think they’re important. I see them on social media, they sneak dissing,” raps Cal_Vin.
After having released a successful album Year of the Vin this year, Cal_Vin says he warned fellow artistes that 2015 would be his year, and now he is urging them to get used to playing second fiddle to him.
“And now u n**** want to eat off my name huuuuh! You need to get used to losing to me. I told you it was Year of the Vin, you didn’t listen.”
Cal_Vin said although he did not understand why artistes in Harare were complaining about his win, he would not let them trample on him.
“I think these two are just confused because I don’t know why they’re taking shots at me. If they want to be burnt, they should play with fire like what they’re doing now. I’ll not back down or keep my mouth shut. I’ll burn them with my lyrics,” he said.
He said since artistes from outside Harare were now getting a fair share of airplay from new radio stations, artistes like Briss Mbada and Junior Brown were probably jittery as they fear competition.
“These people have had their bubble burst as they were used to being on top. When we used to say some of the awards were biased and should look outside the capital, they would cry. Now that we’re getting that recognition they’re making noise about it. They’re silly,” said Cal_Vin.

It is a direct response to Briss Mbada who had earlier released a diss track with lyrics: “Harare ndiyo capital city, Harare huchi, usasaize Harare. Ndakaenda kumaBulawayo Hip Hop Awards ndichifunga kuti ma Zim hip hop awards (Harare is the capital, the best, don’t undermine it. I went to the Bulawayo Hip Hop Awards thinking they were the Zim hip hop awards),”
Mbada then sets out the scene of the awards experience and takes a shot at Cal_Vin, calling him a Judas who wasn’t supposed to win anything. In the second and final verse, he does a roll call of his preferred artist with POY being the only one he mentions from Bulawayo because of the song he did with MC Chita.
At the awards held earlier this month, Briss stormed the stage and expressed his displeasure of Cal_Vin being awarded over him.
Cal_Vin responds to Mbada on The Warning: “Best male tell that n*** Briss get the f*** out of here. Because I ain’t Judas I’m Jesus I brought life to the game.”
