COMMUNITIES in Manicaland Province should join hands with other stakeholders in combating gender-based violence (GBV) to ensure that the scourge is eliminated from society, the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development has said.
The Ministry’s District Development Officer Mr Gabriel Jaji said cases of GBV are still high in the province, especially in districts like Chipinge.
He described the situation as worrisome.
This, he added, calls for concerted and collaborative efforts to escalate the fight in ending all forms of violence and abuse in our communities.
Mr Jaji said Government had committed resources towards swift response to as well as addressing reported cases of GBV and rape.
“GBV remains a big problem in our midst and we have to tackle it. This requires a co-ordinatioed and multi-sectoral approach among our different partners and other stakeholders.
“As a Ministry, we will continue responding to GBV cases and have allocated resources towards that cause. We are confident that a collaborative approach to eliminate GBV will bring the desired results,” said Mr Jaji.
He encouraged all victims of GBV to report the cases so that the perpetrators are brought to book.
