Inotho Kwabatsha is a youth empowerment pressure group which is registered as a trust with the ZYC and mainly operates in the Matabeleland region.
At a meeting attended by 350 youths from Victoria Falls at Chinotimba Hall, the youth association’s national spokesperson Mr Hailey Anderson said a lot of money was lying idle in banks because youths in Matabeleland had not been forthcoming to access the facilities.
“This phenomena called collateral is hampering our empowerment efforts. We today call upon the Zimbabwe Youth Council to establish a bank that will specifically take care of the youth’s fund.
“CABS has provided $1 million meant to benefit this province but so far, less than $150 000 has been utilised. Where are you the youths of this province?
“STANBIC Bank is giving up to $20 000 per applicant again it has been lying idle for the past full year with no one applying. I now call upon you all to unionise yourselves and benefit like other youths in various provinces,” he said.
Another speaker from the MDC faction led by Professor Welshman Ncube, Mr Fortune Mlalazi called upon the youth to be objective and desist from sloganeering which does not bring bread and butter on the table.
“Land reform came and some people did not take up opportunities because they were saying that these are Zanu-PF projects and they lost out. If you do not come out in your numbers to join your Zanu-PF brother or sister as a Zimbabwean youth and seek to be empowered, you will lose again in this empowerment drive.
“If your leaders are working together at national level for the development of the country, why can’t the youth do the same for the development of the country and personal achievements in their respective areas,” he said.
The meeting carried out elections immediately and a steering committee of 10 youths took up posts with Mr Mathews Muleya being elected chairman.
