Vic Falls council identifies potential firms for UNWTO projects

In an interview Mayor Councillor Nkosilathi Jiyane said the council’s procurement board had met and all that what was left was for a full council to pass a resolution on the matter.

He said the local authority had received $1million towards rehabilitation of the roads.

“We are looking forward to receiving another $1 million for the roads and a further $2million for water and sewer reticulation services,” he said.

Clr Jiyane, who is the UNWTO GA Local Organising Committee chairperson, also said the construction of the conference centre was going to go ahead as per the initial plans.

He said the construction of the facility would be fast tracked so that it could accommodate visitors for the tourism indaba next year.

“The conference centre is going to be fast tracked and they will be using prefabricated material and should be ready in time for UNWTO.

The good thing is that the land we gave government for this purpose is serviced, there are roads, water and sewer reticulation and there is also electricity. So it should be much cheaper and faster to built,” he said.
