A call has been made for the fair distribution of inputs under the Pfumvudza/Intwasa initiative, as the cropping season is set to start.

The appeal was made by Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza, at the launch of the Manicaland Province 2025/26 Pfumvudza/Intwasa initiative in Chigodora Village. Adv Mugadza said the Pfumvudza farming model is crucial for enhancing food security.

“In the spirit of ‘Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo/Ilizwe lakhiwa ngabanikazi balo’, I urge that these inputs be distributed fairly,” he said.

“Every person deserves support from President Emmerson Mnangagwa,” he stated. For the 2025/26 agricultural season, Manicaland has set ambitious goals, inspired by the successes of past years and positive rainfall forecasts.

The seasonal forecast predicts abundant rainfall, which is expected to significantly benefit crop production.

The targeted plots for maize cultivation are 1 365 576, covering 84 613 hectares and benefiting 451 992 households.

The projected cereal yield—including maize, sorghum and millet—is estimated at 140 000 tonnes.

As of early November, over 1.6 million plots have been prepared for all crops province-wide, with the pace of preparation expected to increase due to ongoing farmer training and mobilisation.

Planting of maize and other crops has already begun across the province following the recent rains.

Said Adv Mugadza: “These efforts position Manicaland to make a significant contribution to the national target of 3.2 million tonnes of cereals by the 2025/26 season.”

A farmer, Mr Noah Manzini, praised the Government for its timely distribution of inputs, crediting the Pfumvudza programme for improving his yields.

“Farmers here are thankful for receiving inputs for free and on time. Since Pfumvudza was launched, we have achieved good yields for both consumption and sale to the Grain Marketing Board,” he said, underscoring the positive impact of the programme.
