MUTARE District Darts Association has called for more teams to join their league which will resume mid-February for it to be more competitive than the 2014 season.The 2014 Darts league consisted of 14 teams, Buffaloes, Mangenje, KPJ, Telone, Kuraone, Redwing, Lamour, Public works, ZRP, ZPCS, NRZ, Tsabvu, The Manica Post and Mutare Teachers’ College.
November 29 marked the end of the season, with Buffaloes winning the league as Mangenje and Public works finished second and third respectively.
Punching bags The Manica Post and National Railways of Zimbabwe were at the bottom of the league table after both teams failed to fulfil most of their fixtures during the season.
The top two teams — Buffaloes and Mangenje — participated in the provincial Champion of Champions tournament in which Buffaloes came first and Chatogo of Chipinge District came second.
Buffaloes and Chatogo will now represent the province in the national darts championships.
Extreme differences in points between the league log leaders and the bottom teams has not been taken lightly by the MDDA whose organising secretary, Innocent Gomba, said there was need for teams to work hard and participate in all league matches.
“The 2014 season had constrains which affected the smooth flow of the league. Some teams especially those who finished at the bottom of the league did not play some of their matches and that created a big difference within the league. Some teams were facing in-house problems and in most cases these were financial.
“The new season is expected to commence on February 9. Each club must pay $60 registration fee and each player $25. This money will help in the administrative organisation of the league matches since some of the venues are paid for.
“We are appealing to other prospective clubs within Mutare to join the Mutare District Darts League. This is how the game will be promoted.” said Gomba.
