Call for Sadc water management

this yesterday while addressing delegates from River Basin Organisations (RBOs) in the Sadc region attending a two-day workshop in Harare.

Key objectives of this year’s workshop are to review protocol implementation and monitoring.
“The fact that water cannot readily be substituted by other resources leads in part to the need for long-term co-operation between states over its (water) management and development,” said Minister Nkomo.

“This co-operation is promoted and enhanced by institutions such as laws or agreements which have been developed either on a bilateral or multilateral level among states.”

Zimbabwe, he said, was committed to Sadc initiatives of co-operation with other basin states.
“We have signed and ratified all agreements on management of water courses that we share with other countries in the region,” he said.
Minister Nkomo applauded the Sadc region for interactions over shared watercourses.
