Call for trust

Masvingo Bureau
Chiefs and businesspeople in the impoverished Chivi district have called for the formation of a development trust that will ensure that ordinary people accrue benefits from the Tokwe-Mukosi Dam and the local community share scheme.Recently elected Chivi Rural District Council chairperson Cde Killer Zivhu said chiefs and business would be involved to ensure that local people do not lose out on the potential economic benefits to come out from the huge dam.

Tokwe-Mukosi Dam is due for completion before December this year and vast opportunities in sectors such as fishing and tourism are in the offing especially for the people of Chivi and Masvingo districts where the dam is located.

Speaking during a meeting between some of the newly-elected Chivi Rural District councillors, chiefs and scores of businessmen at Chivi Growth Point yesterday, Cde Zivhu hailed the push for such a trust in the arid district saying it was prudent to identify opportunities that would stimulate development in the dry area.

Cde Zivhu said the Tokwe-Mukosi Dam presented opportunities for people in Chivi to economically develop.
