Call to adopt solar energy

“Namibia and Zimbabwe are among the few countries that receive meaningful sunshine and we can take advantage of the natural resource to avail cheap energy source to the nation,” he said.
Dr Mafoti said his institution had come up with a solar panel lighting system and solar irrigation system, which was benefiting some households in Chivi.
“We can have the lighting system even in rural areas and this will enable the communities to venture into income generating projects relying on the solar energy,” he said.
Dr Mafoti said the system costs US$10 000 and was serving two villages.
The Chivi community has ventured into gardening and their water is pumped through solar energy.
“We can save money by investing in solar energy which is renewable,” he said.
