EDUCATION advocate and girl child rights activist, Tanatswa Salome Moyo, is looking for donations for her current ‘The Period Protection’ project.
She is collecting sanitary pads from different places as donations for the less privileged students in different institutions.
Speaking to H-Metro, the 16-year-old said she realised that 79 percent of girls in Zimbabwe suffer from period poverty.
Some of them have been forced to miss school, during this period of the month, because they cannot afford the pads .
“A month ago, as I was going through a survey which was about period poverty in Zimbabwe.
“Girls, who face this problem, lose confidence during this time of the month and have to use things like clothes, which could be unhygienic.
“Therefore, this project is set out to help the girl child gain their confidence through donations of pads and talk more about poor menstrual hygiene.
“I will give the donated pads to schools in poverty-stricken communities.”
