Mr Patrick Muzondo, a representative of private organisation, Financial Markets Indaba (FMI), said this in a statement issued after donating football uniforms and equipment to Sharon Cohen Special School last week.
Mr Muzondo said people should encourage their legislators to push Government to support disadvantaged communities, especially the disabled and mentally challenged.
Sharon Cohen Special School falls under the ZimCare Trust Group of Schools.
“There is also the realisation that there is no major political activism for the less advantaged, especially the disabled and mentally challenged.
“People are not confronting their parliamentary representatives, demanding increased Government support for the disabled, the mentally challenged and disadvantaged sections of the community,” said Mr Muzondo.
He said it is encouraging that political parties have included issues of physically and mentally challenged members of society in their manifestos.
There is need, however, for a national policy to promote sport in schools that fall under the Zimcare Trust Group of Schools, he said.
According to Mr Muzondo, privileged members of society have a moral obligation to look after the vulnerable.
“As human beings, we have a moral obligation to help reduce poverty and prevent hunger, disease and death. To an extent, we should at least make life a bit more tolerable for others by reducing the social gap and social barriers despite the different backgrounds or current situations. Failing to make sacrifices to help the less privileged is ethically indefensible,” he said.
FMI is an investment platform that connects capital providers, allocators and operators with a view to promote investment deals and activity in Zimbabwe and Africa.
Last week’s event was organised by The Angeline Foundation, together with the Sharon Cohen Special School administration.
