Calls to industrialise rural communities intensify

Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Marian Chombo, has called on corporates and investors to help industrialise rural areas in line with the Second Republic’s aspirations.

She was speaking on the second day of the ongoing 78th Mashonaland West Agricultural Show at Chinhoyi Show Grounds this morning during the Agribusiness and Rural Industrialisation Conference.

She said the promotion of the development of rural industries resonates well with the national aspirations outlined in the National Development Strategy, NDS1, and Vision 2030.

“This is also in line with the global sustainable development goals,” she said.

Mashonaland West Agriculture Show Society chairman, Mr Godfrey Mavhankeni, said the conference was also aimed at giving rural farmers ideas on how to transform their areas into industrial hubs through value addition of their produce.

The meeting was also attended by a delegation from Namibia’s Okavango Eastern Region, led by Governor Mr Hambyuka Julius Hamunyeara, and farmers.
