CAMEO men’s basketball team successfully defended their Bob@90 basketball title when they beat Matero Magic 50-42 at the University of Zimbabwe at the weekend.
Matero Magic added the foreign flavour to the tournament and were impressive on their way to the final but, in Cameo, they met their match in the final.
The women’s final was an all-Matabeleland affair with Lakers beating Mavericks 27-15 in the final.

Cameo, who won the women’s title last year, did not take part in the competition this time around.

Prince Edward continued their dominance in the schools category as they beat Conway College 22-19 in a tightly-contested final.

Conway College also picked up the silver medal, in the schoolgirls’ battle, as they lost 16-18, in another close match, to dominant force Girls High.

The tournament’s chief co-ordinator, Tendai “T-Buns” Zhakata, a prominent basketball administrator who founded and sponsored Mabvuku Jammers, said the tournament went a notch higher this year.

“We are very grateful to all those who helped the event to be a success, we will hold a Bob@90 awards ceremony where we will present prizes for the winners by the end of this month,” said Zhakata.

The Bob@90 basketball tournament was introduced last year with several teams and schools taking part.

It has continued to grow and this year attracted foreign participants.
