Former Busi Ncube and the late Taku Mafika’s backing vocalist Tina Watyoka recently launched her second album titled “Ndoita Sei?” at the Book Café. Tina’s second offering is fused with hip hop and some lively afro-pop, Mozambican pasada rhythms and slow soulful jams.
Alexio Kawara is one of the writers of the songs on the album.
“I did not just write the songs on the album for fun but I know potential when I see it and I believe Tina possesses what it takes to be the best in the music industry. It is not about money but I believe in talent,” said Kawara at the album launch.
At the event Tina graced the stage with a cool, confident elegance as she went through her musical repertoire.
Dressed in an African garb, she vivaciously swayed on stage.
Tina showed that she is not just hiding behind big names in the industry but has so much to offer.
When she took to the dance floor when she was performing one of her sing along songs “Ndendende” almost everyone took joined the dancing.
Some of the tracks are “Regai Ndiende” penned by Kawara and talks about destiny, “Shivers”, “Usazvipe Pressure”, “Amai” and “Ndendende” a traditional-Shona gospel song.
Victor Kunonga, Mafriq and Kawara are some of the artistes who took to the stage and performed at the album launch.
The 26-year-old Chitungwiza-based songstress, who leads an eight-member band, said she learnt a lot from established musicians whom she worked with.
In 2010, she toured Europe with Mafika and Gary Tight Muponda as part of the International Youth Orchestra that performed in five countries.
