A magazine that caters for universities and colleges in Zimbabwe is set to be launched in April. The magazine which has been christened “Campus Culture” covers the lifestyles of students at tertiary institutions and is a product of an events management organisation “Campus Culture” which is run by university students.
Tanaka Mupfurutsa, the finance director said the magazine will be focusing on the day to day lives of students and other issues that are not covered in the mainstream media.
“There are a lot of activities which take place at different campuses across Zimbabwe and the magazine is going to focus on all those issues. Basically it will focus on student lifestyles.
“It will also be a platform to parade our local campus heroes who include musicians, poets, writers, athletes and different achievers who at times go unnoticed,” Mupfurutsa, a Business and Computing Science student at University of Zimbabwe said.
Mupfurutsa also said the magazine was apolitical.
“We hope to see students being employers and we are non-partisan and the political stories which we will cover are those that concern Student Representative Committee issues,” said Mupfurutsa.
Stories from other tertiary institutions will be covered through an editorial committee with representatives throughout Zimbabwe.
“We already have correspondents who will share the story of their institutions from their bases and ideally we want to create employment for a number of students,” he said.
“Campus Culture” has already partnered with Kenako Media House, a publication company.
“We are partnering with Kenako Media House for publications but we have already started looking for corporate sponsorship to back us financially although we also hope to get income from advertisers as well,” said Mupfurutsa.
The magazine is a quarterly publication but the group hopes to make it a monthly production.
