The Lion Lager Activation Campus Night is back after a two-week break. The final leg of the ongoing campus night will be held at Harare Gardens tomorrow for all the colleges in the capital. What makes this gig special is that all the musicians who have performed at different campus nights will be sharing the stage.
These include Winky D, Jah Prayzah, King Shaddy, Guspy Warrior, Shinsoman, Stunner and Sniper Storm.
For artistes such as Winky D, Guspy Warrior and King Shaddy this will be the platform to warm up for the annual Lion Lager Summer Beer Festival where they would battle it out with Nigerian D’Banj and Ugandan Bebe Cool.
Winky D is expected to continue with his gospel of anti-drug abuse he has been preaching to students. The Kambuzuma-based chanter is proving to be the face of the Campus Night as he has performed in Mutare, Bulawayo, Chinhoyi and Gweru. He has been consistent in the past gigs with top-notch performances that have left many revellers asking for more.
However, it was his show at Africa University that was the best so far.
Winky D made a grand entrance with the backing of his live band, Vigilance. Dressed in a pair of red jeans and a matching jacket, Winky D asked the engineer to turn the lights down low before blitzing on to the stage amid loud cheers from his adoring fans.
Shinsoman, who is enjoying a purple patch, is also a man to watch out. He brought the house down in Chinhoyi.
Shinsoman is expected to belt out some of his hit songs such as “MaGhetto Yuts”, “Kukunakidza” and “Dancehall Fada” among others.
Since he broke into the limelight back in 2009 with his single track “Number One” in which he features Cindy Munyavi, he has never looked back.
Shinsoman started his career when he was in Form One in 2001. He has already released a single album titled “Mudhara Kubva Kudhara”.
King Shaddy will be making his second appearance at the ongoing gigs and it remains to be seen if he will dish out clean lyrics.
The controversial chanter has a penchant for explicit lyrics since his formative years.
Guspy Warrior has seen his stock rise in recent months with his hit song “Ita Seunononga” that has become anthemic. The dancehall chanter is also a performer of note and is capable of an upset on the night.
Jah Prayzah is one musician who is full of energy and verve. He is a complete entertainer — a dancer, singer and a good mbira player all bundled in one. He has already found the replacement for dancer Generator who unceremoniously left the group because of personal problems.
The new recruit, only identified as Pamela, has managed to fill the void left by Generator and is proving to be a crowd favourite.
Sniper Storm is also a heavyweight in his own right as he is on top of his game. The Nama-award winning artiste is not new to these clashes as he has triumphed in many dancehall clashes since 2000.
In a career that spans more than a decade, the veteran chanter is enjoying a purple patch after churning hits such as “Love YeMusoja” and “Kubhinya” among others.
It is his fiery stage presence that is capable to knock other dancehall artistes of their perch. Shinsoman has been a revelation this year and now commands a huge following among dancehall lovers in the country.
