College and university life is a rollercoaster of emotions, challenges, and victories.
One thing that certain is that, as students strive to make their mark, they face mammoth tasks and obstacles while also discovering their potential for impact.
As students, the journey through college or university is not just about acquiring knowledge but leaving a legacy that goes beyond the classroom walls.
Every action, interaction and initiative can create a lasting impression.
I always tell my fellow students that, don’t go to college or university to only be an assignments based student. Don’t go to campus so that you go back home but harbour dreams of leaving a lasting impression.
In honest, the journey through college or university is filled with struggles and triumphs but I still have a feeling that students can change the world.
While, university life is often romanticised, it comes with its fair share of challenges.
This week, I would like to share that the academic journey is not a walk in the park, neither is it manna on a silver plate. Obviously, we all pass through difficult phases but in the end we conquer.
It is essential and everyone’s basic need to learn but let it be known that it is not an easy journey. Whether in lectures, discussions or group projects, your participation matters.
Most importantly, the only way to do great work is to love what you do and students should love being who they are.
It is my desire that students should leave a lasting impact.
While academic excellence is crucial, the experiences and relationships forged beyond the classroom can leave a lasting impact and create a meaningful legacy.
Surpassing the challenges which come with the academic challenges makes the transition from academia to the professional world a remarkable experience for any student. As graduation approaches, the reality of the job market begins to set in.
In the education journey, students are not just passive recipients of knowledge; they are active participants who have the potential to leave lasting impressions on their communities, peers and even the world. Each student carries a unique story, and when these stories are shared, they can inspire others and create a ripple effect of positivity and change.
The concept of leaving an impact transcends academics. It involves engaging with others, sharing insights and contributing to a greater purpose.
Successful students often embrace these ethos, understanding that their actions, whether big or small, can influence those around them. They recognise that true success is not solely measured by grades or accolades, but by the legacy they leave behind.

A classroom atmosphere, where students support each other’s endeavours, can lead to collective achievements that go far beyond school walls.
Moreover, educators play a crucial role in this process. By encouraging students to pursue their passions and think critically about their impact, lecturers can cultivate future leaders who are not only successful in their careers but also committed to making a difference.
As students pursue their educational journeys, it is essential for them to recognise the power they hold in shaping their environments.

I understand that sometimes emotional impact of repeated rejections can be hard hitting.
Feelings of frustration, inadequacy and isolation are common as students seize the gap between their expectations and reality.
The struggle to secure employment can eat into self-confidence, leading to anxiety and a sense of failure.
For many, this period of uncertainty is exacerbated by the pressure of impending expirations and the looming threat of having to migrate without achieving their career goals.
Student engagement is not just a short-term goal, it’s a mindset that shapes lives, careers, and communities.
Education’s goal is not just to help students succeed in college, but it’s to prepare them for success in life.
The aim of education is not to make students successful in college, it’s to make them successful in the lives they lead outside of campus.
Many college students hope to earn a degree and improve their livelihood at home and work. However, after students begin their college experience, they often face challenges that might seem insurmountable.
These obstacles normally prevent some students from achieving those hopes and leaving lasting impressions.
When students have the support they need, they have more freedom to focus on their academics, improving their chances of success.
The greatest challenges that students face today are related to academics, accessibility, finances, living environment, mental health and wellness, and time management.
Despite all these challenges, students have to leave an impact and legacy.
Think back to your own late-night study sessions and focus on making an impact. The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.
Balancing time commitments can be another challenge for college students but in the end, impact matters.
Many must work full or part-time jobs, attend classes and care for family, making good time management challenging.
Responsibilities can overwhelm students, especially those who have not attended college or who have been out of school for many years.
Many struggle to prioritise tasks, manage time effectively and ask for help when needed.
But given that increased stress and anxiety levels can make good decision-making even harder, it’s easy to see why managing commitments is the second most frequent challenge faced by college students today.
While these moments can be some of the worst in a student’s life, they are also opportunities for growth and making impact.
By sharing our experiences, we can support each other through the tough times, turning adversity into strength. Let’s create a community where we can learn from our struggles and celebrate our triumphs together.
Of course, the challenges students face in college can impact their ability to succeed and complete their studies. Each student is unique, and people around them must understand the challenges of individuals and work with them to overcome them. In most cases at the landscape of university life, students often find themselves at a crossroads.
Every student has the potential to leave a legacy through their actions, whether by volunteering, leading initiatives, or simply inspiring others.
