SEVEN Flames coach Kudakwashe Matuwi says he is hoping for a positive result when they clash with Mushowani Stars this afternoon at Afdis in the World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league. Matuwi said despite the challenges they are facing, because of lack of depth in the team, he remains optimistic ahead of today’s game.
“Of course, Mushowani are playing well so we expect it to be a tough game because they are at home but we have prepared well,” said Matuwi.
“This week I expect results to come. The team has been playing well but it’s just that results were not coming. We are trying to correct and ensure that it comes out well. The team doesn’t have depth because we registered 20 players hoping that we will pick some players during the window period. “If we have injuries it means we are limited on selection and it is the same people that are playing. Maybe if we had 30 players we would have done better but we have to keep on using the same players because we have few players.
“I understand the situation but it’s not the situation I would have wanted to work under. I want to work with more players.”
Matuwi said he has already identified some of the players he would want to add on to the current team for the second half of the season and added that he is confident they will turn the tables.
“Definitely it will work, the competition is not that tough if we just correct some areas within our team. We will come back, we are not far from the other teams. If we just win one game we will turn the tables. We need 10 players and, of course, I have already identified some of the players I want. Some we are already training with them,” said Matuwi.
Although Seven Flames are eager for a win today they should expect a tough match from Mushowani who are bubbling with confidence after bouncing back to their winning ways last week.
And the Mashonaland Central-based side will be out to close the gap separating them from the log leaders, Bindura, hoping to reclaim the pole position.
In another potential thriller, Gunners have a date against ZRP Morris at Morris Depot and coach, Kudakwashe Masaraure said the return of top goal scorer, Moses Demera, who missed last week’s game due to an injury, and three other players – Freddy Munyoro, Prosper Chigumba and Farai Madora – is a boost to the team.
Gunners were held to a goalless draw by Flame Lily in their previous game.
Chegutu Pirates hosts Karoi United at Chakari and it remains to be seen if the former can overcome the boardroom problems that have rocked the club with players refusing to train for three days ahead of today’s match as they demanded outstanding allowances
