ZIMBABWE begin day four of the first Test match against South Africa with an improbable target to chase.
The Chevrons, chasing a daunting 537, are batting against the odds, needing 505 more runs to win with nine wickets hand or batting out two full days to secure a draw.
Zimbabwe’s most successful run chase in red ball cricket is 174.
The hosts resume the penultimate day on 32/1 having lost Takudzwanashe Kaitano with the last ball of day three.
With 18 overs remaining to bat, on day three, Zimbabwe adopted a defensive approach with 15 off their 32 runs being extras while Kaitano faced 62 balls for his 12 runs.
Nick Welch is set to join Prince Masvaure, on five runs off 49 balls, in the middle at the start of the fourth day.
