TWENTY-SIX swimmers have been selected to represent Zimbabwe at this year’s annual African Swimming Confederation Zone IV Swimming Championships scheduled for Malawi next month.

The games will run from 21 to 24 March. Zimbabwe Swimming chairperson, Tracy Doorman said the team comprises an equal number of boys and girls aged 11 and above.

“They (swimmers) will be competing in individual and relay events over the course of the four days, in the annual competition against countries which will include, South Africa, Zambia, Mauritius and the host country, Malawi. The competition venue is the ABC Swimming School Pool in Malawi. We are confident the team which comprises a total of 13 girls and 13 boys will represent us well at the event,” she said.

Swimmers selected for the team include Mkhuseli Mahobele, Saira Ramajan, Jade Chicksen, Julie Tungamirai in the 11 and 12 year old girls section, Shammah Razunguzwa, Lindiwe Bhebhe, Hannah Mitchell and Makanaka Mawere make up the 13 and 14 years grouping while those aged 15 and 16 years are Courtney Brown, Claire Melrose and Hannah Putterill and in the 17 and over section there is Nyasha Mukonoweshuro and Kim Balneaves.
In the boys’ 11 and 12 years group there is Paul Mwipikeni, Jayden de Swardt, Tawanda Chisungo and Nigel Madzivire in the 13 and 14 years section there is Dylan Huang, Kenan Callaghan and Paul Retzlaff while Brett Jones, Jordan Smith and Thomas Lindsay are in the 15 and 16 years section and the 17 years and over age group has Chris Vlahakis and Vuyisile Mjimba.

Doorman said they are confident of a good outing following Zimbabwe’s performance last year when they came second behind South Africa.

Meanwhile the Zimbabwe Waterpolo Board of Control has also announced the team that will do duty for the country at the Cana Zone IV Waterpolo Championships scheduled for Durban, South Africa from 9 to 11 March.

The girls’ team is made up of Chelsea Hunter, Amy Grainger, Caitlin Staines, Isabell Savo, Wandile Banda, Cheyanne Marais, Sydnie Hammond, Jorja Jones, Kyla Rugg, Lauren MacKenzie, Kianna Melvin and Carla Goodinson.

The boys’ team includes Lance Annandale, Nick Balfour, Connor Campbell-Sparrow, Jamie Cawood, Denilson Cyprianos, Michael Hodgson, Tom Lindsay, Broc Meyer, Tapiwa Madzima, Euan Nesbitt, Simon Sharwood and Jordan Smith.
