Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa yesterday met Canadian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Christina Buchan and briefed her on the achievements made by the Second Republic.
Deputy Minister Kindness Paradza and Permanent Secretary Mr Nick Mangwana attended the meeting.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Minister Mutsvangwa said they had discussed issues of mutual concern and explored ways of cooperation in various sectors, especially the media field.
“We also briefed the ambassador on the achievement we have made since the Second Republic came into being especially the media reforms which have taken place and for the first time in the history of this country, we have issued commercial TV licences and we have gone further to licence community radio stations to make sure that we don’t leave anyone behind.
“This is what the President Cde Mnangagwa is saying that we don’t need to leave anyone behind and we are seeing a lot of good results,” she said.
The Minister added that her ministry was working on re-branding the country and engaging Zimbabweans in the Diaspora.
Minister Mutsvangwa said there were various areas the two countries could work in and extended an invitation to Canadian journalists to visit Zimbabwe and see first-hand the developments and programmes being implemented by Government.
Ambassador Buchan said the meeting was cordial and said there was room for enhanced cooperation between the two countries.
“We discussed the relations between Canada and Zimbabwe and how we can collaborate on several issues.
“It was a pleasure to discuss how journalists can work together, media freedoms and diversity of voices in Zimbabwe and we also discussed the role of women especially the role of female journalists,” she said.
She also commended the progress that has been by Government in its reform agenda and expressed hope that the two countries would continue to dialogue.
