He said the candle was near some books and they caught fire.
“The fire destroyed a carpet, blankets, clothes and a bed.
“A passer-by saw the fire at around 1pm and alerted the police,” Chief Supt Nyathi said.
He said the Fire Brigade was summoned and investigations revealed that the fire had been caused by a candle.
“We are dispelling any notions that this case was a politically motivated case.
“It’s a clear case human error of which the facts are there for everyone to see,” he said.
