CAPS BELIEVE IN CONGOLESE HITMAN

CAPS United have signed experienced Congolese striker Chris Mugalu, marking their first major move ahead of the mid-season transfer window.

The 34 year-old forward arrives from Zambian side Forest Rangers.

He has signed a one-and-a-half year contract with an option to extend.

The move comes at the recommendation of new head coach Ian Bakala, who is looking to breathe new life into the Green Machine.

CAPS United are aiming to bring in at least five new players when the transfer window opens on July 1.

The club will release six players.

The club believes Mugalu’s experience will be crucial in solving their scoring problems, having netted just 10 goals in their opening 14 matches of the 2025 season.

“We needed an experienced striker with a proven record and the coach made this recommendation. If you look at CAPS United this season, we haven’t been scoring enough and that is one reason why we are where we are on the log standings,” said club CEO Morton Dodzo.

“So, as a club, we couldn’t just sit and fold hands when the team isn’t doing well.

“We have to do something and we are working closely with the head coach and his technical team. We signed a defender from Zambia recently and we thought we had to do this on time so that we will have an opportunity to process their papers before the transfer window opens.

“The coach is eager to see an improvement in the team. We need to strengthen the squad beyond just this season. We just hope that all the signings that we are doing will bring value,” said Dodzo.

Mugalu boasts a solid track record in African football. He has featured for Lusaka Dynamos in Zambia, Simba SC in Tanzania, and Saudi Arabian side Washm AC.

His continental experience includes appearances in both the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup with Simba.

His role at CAPS will be to lead the line and support forwards Nyasha Chintuli and Jayden Bakari.

Cameroonian Emmanuel Joseph Mbollo could be on his way out of the club.

Bakala, who recently took over as head coach, identified the need for reinforcements shortly after his arrival, noting that the team required fresh legs and more competition in key areas.

“We valued his experience and capabilities more than anything. He has a track record of scoring and that’s something that we needed badly. Hopefully, he will quickly fit into the team’s philosophy,” said Dodzo.
