CAPS United boss Lloyd Chitembwe has dedicated yesterday’s hard-fought Castle Lager Premier Soccer League victory to their long-suffering devoted fans.

Immaculate Mawuna put the visiting Sugar Boys ahead after only nine minutes following a lapse in concentration by the CAPS United defence at the National Sports Stadium.

The visitors could have doubled their lead in the 36th minute, but Marshall Machazane stopped Gerald Bero’s effort from crossing the line.

CAPS United captain, Pheneas Bamusi, was replaced by Ian Nyoni in the 37th minute, in a tactical change.

Chitembwe’s troops had a penalty appeal waved away in the 55th minute after their hitman, William Manondo, was pulled down.

However, Emmanuel Mandiranga restored parity in the 87th minute, with a close range strike.

Ben Musaka, who has emerged as a vital cog in Chitembwe’s back four, scored a contender for the Goal of the Season from the centre circle, deep in stoppage time, to seal victory for the struggling Green Machine.

Chitembwe was cheered by a section of fans.

“This victory belongs to the fans,” said Chitembwe.

“Even when we felt like the match was over, they kept singing encouraging songs.

“They gave the players every reason to believe and I have never experienced such a level of support for a long time.

“I’m happy for the fans, they have endured a lot and they deserve more.”

He hailed his troops for a dramatic comeback.

“I’m happy with the way we played today. There was more passion and determination.

“This victory will surely inspire new beginnings,” he said.

CAPS United had gone into yesterday’s game on the back of a four-match winless run, and six points off the drop-zone.

Triangle assistant coach, Patrick Mandizha, said they could have buried CAPS United before the break had they converted many chances which came their way.

“It was a game of two halves. We should have scored many goals in the first half, but the lack of a killer instinct cost us.

“But, I think CAPS United played well, they deserve the victory,” said Mandizha.
