CAPS United president, Farai Jere, insists the Green Machine will still win this season’s league championship despite falling way off the pace.
He predicts a photo-finish in the championship race.
“We have done good business and looking at the depth that we now have in the goalkeeping department, we will win the 2026 championship,” said Jere.
“It is going to be a photo-finish.
“(Washington) Arubi is now our now, and (Victor) James is our future.”
Jere responded to their faltering title challenge with a sweeping mid-season rebuild, completing five signings while they are preparing to offload several senior players.
The Green Machine have secured the services of goalkeeper Arubi, Botswana international James, Malawian attacking midfielder Uchizi Vunga, FC Platinum right back Precious Phiri and the return of DRC striker Chris Mugalu.
All five players have now received their clearance letters and are available for selection ahead of Sunday’s crucial clash against Hardrock in Kwekwe.
CAPS United, who led the log standings from the start until Match Day 14, have endured a mid-season slump that has seen them fall five points behind second-placed Hardrock and slide into third, nine points shy of leaders Scottland.
“We have done our business already and the five players are here, training with the rest of the team before we complete their registration,” said CAPS United CEO Morton Dodzo.
The overhaul was also sparked by the fact that CAPS United have been so underwhelming that they managed just one win in their last five league matches.
The club’s first priority has been ending the goalkeeping uncertainty that threatened to derail its title challenge.
Arubi arrives with vast experience while James, formerly with Jwaneng Galaxy, is viewed as a long-term investment.
The pair replace Wallace Magalane, whose costly errors contributed to CAPS dropping valuable points during the first half of the campaign.
CAPS are also pursuing Highlanders and Warriors midfielder Mongameli Tshuma, with negotiations between the two clubs continuing.
Dodzo confirmed talks were still ongoing.
“About Tshuma, we are still in talks with Highlanders so his registration is yet to be discussed,” he said.
Defender Carlos Mavhurume has also joined from Simba Bhora, with the club expected to complete the remaining registration formalities.
The arrivals are expected to trigger a significant clear-out.
Delic Murimba, McDonald Makuwe, Wesley Milanzi and Magalane are also expected to be deregistered.
Murimba, Makuwe, Milanzi and Magalane are understood to have fallen short of expectations.
Veteran forward Ishmael Wadi’s impending departure is largely linked to disciplinary issues after he was recently suspended by the club.
