NEWLY appointed Caps United head coach Mark Harrison has returned to South Africa amid reports that he could not secure a work permit. Makepekepe have since pushed the start of their pre-season preparations to the end of this month.
Harrison faces a lawsuit from his former employers, South Africa’s Black Leopards who argue that he was still contracted to them until the end of the season.
“His papers are not yet in order although I’m not sure whether that has anything to do with the Black Leopards threat to take legal action against him. The situation at the club isn’t that rosy as you might be aware that a majority of the players want out while others have already gone,” said a source close to the Twine Phiri owned outfit.
Club spokesperson Joyce Kapota, while denying that Harrison’s papers aren’t ready, confirmed that the Englishman has since returned to South Africa.
“He’s gone back to South Africa and should be back by next week. He went to sort out a few issues to do with his papers. We’re starting our pre-season preparations at the end of January,” said Kapota.
She said the club was busy with its countrywide recruitment exercise, a confirmation that the club feared for the worst and was preparing counter measures in the event players do eventually leave.
“Our assistant coaches, Brenna Msiska and Fungai Kwashi will be in charge of the early stages of our preparations. Today (yesterday) we had our first meeting with the players where we introduced them to the new regime and also see where we stand together, we will officially announce our squad at the end of the month,” said Kapota.
All the other 15 Premiership clubs have since started their pre-season preparations with some are already lining up a number of friendly matches.
