CAPS United are keen on engaging unsettled defender Lincoln Zvasiya if only they can get to tie him to a contract of at least six months.
The Kaizer Chiefs man may be on the sidelines in the first half of the season as he is failing to secure another club to play for since returning from a loan stint in Greece.
Zvasiya has now set his sights on joining the Green Machine and has been training with the club since last week.
At the weekend he featured in the 3-0 victory against Black Rhinos in a practice match at Larfarge.
But while the club is interested in the steady defender they are yet to make a decision with the sticking point being his duration at the club.
Yesterday, CAPS United team manager Luis Maio said they were building a team which should compete and last the distance. He said they wanted Zvasiya to guarantee that he will stay for at least six months, or until the end of the year, before they can get his signature.
“He is training with us but we still haven’t made a decision on him. If he can play till the end of the year or six months it’s okay.
“We would want to build a team which can go all the way. The league is now starting in April and we wouldn’t want a situation where someone plays a few games and leave.
“Lincoln is a good player, strong and dependable and is someone any coach would want in his team,” said Maio.
The Warriors defender first tried his luck with Harare City but did not secure a contract. He faces a dry first half of the year if he fails to secure a club.
And it is not clear whether his parent club Kaizer Chiefs would have a slot for him by the time the window opens.
Meanwhile, CAPS United continued with their preparations for the season with their Malawian striker Ishmael Thindwa joining the team over the weekend from his home country.
The player was here on trials and returned home to Malawi to sort out his move. Thindwa is now in the country to train with his new club.
The team manager said they want to be competitive this season and do better than last year when they finished in fifth position.
“We want to be competitive and definitely aim to finish higher than last season. We did well at the weekend and a lot of players didn’t even feature in the match against Black Rhinos,” he said.
