Caps United elections off

Sports Reporter
FADING Harare soccer giants Caps United have cancelled all elections for their supporters’ chapters which had been initially set for this month to   next year. The former Cup Kings have vibrant supporters’ chapters spread across the country, a wing that saw the club survive last season’s turbulence coming in with timely donations that enabled them to fulfil some of their assignments.

Alex Munyaka, a Caps United board member whose portfolio caters for supporters said it came to their attention that there were some people who wanted to destabilise the chapters’ activities by calling for the removal of office bearers.

“It has been resolved by the Caps United board that no elections for the supporters’ chapters will be held this year. Even the national elections for the supporters’ wing have been put on ice until next year,” said Munyaka.

“Basically the two reasons for the cancellation of elections are that these people who are leading our supporters came into office towards the end of 2013 and as such elections will be held after three years after reviewing their progress.

“They’ve done well under the circumstances and it has come to our knowledge that it’s only people bent on bringing instability to the club who want elections now and we are saying no to that.”

He declined to comment on the foiled attempt to oust the Blessed Gumbo-led national supporters’ executive at a general meeting held in Gweru at the beginning of the month.

Caps United have supporters’ chapters in  Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru, Zvishavane,   Chitungwiza, Kwekwe, Kadoma, Chiredzi, Hwange and Mutare.
