FORMER Bantu Rovers player Marvelous Nakamba says he can’t wait to don the Young Warriors kit when the Callisto Pasuwa-coached youngsters begin their three-tournament qualifiers.The Young Warriors will start with the All-Africa Games qualifiers set for Congo Brazzaville whose finals will be held in September.
In April they will begin their Democratic Republic of Congo Championship qualifiers which will culminate in the Rio 2016 Olympic qualification.
Speaking to Chronicle Sport from his base in the Netherlands where he plays for top side Vitesse, the Hwange born 20-year-old said he was more than ready to represent his motherland if called upon.
“It’s every player’s dream to play for his national team, if a call up comes I’ll definitely fly over to play for my country,” said Nakamba whose first port of call outside the country was in France where he played for Nancy before switching to the Dutch side which has a strong relationship with England giants Chelsea.
The youngster, a forward minded midfielder believes Zimbabwe has a big chance to qualify for all the tournaments if they prepare adequately.
“I believe our chances are bright but we need to prepare well and on time then the rest will fall into place,” said Nakamba.
The Young Warriors take on Swaziland in the first round over the weekend of February 22-23 with giants South Africa and Senegal lying in wait on their path in the African Championships.
There has not been any tentative date as to when the Young Warriors’ camp is expected to begin, a month before the first tournament starts.
Most countries are set to start their preparations next week while Kenya’s Under-23s go into camp today ahead of their February first round match against Egypt.
Botswana were due to play Egypt at the weekend as part of their preparations for the three tournaments’ qualifiers.
