HARARE Premiership giants CAPS United scored a first for a football team in Zimbabwe when they launched their mobile application yesterday. The mobile app is meant to be an interactive forum between the club and their fans and can be downloaded on Android mobile phones. According to the system’s developer, Tinashe Kujoka, interested fans can use the provided link to download the application for a nominal fee just like they do on WhatsApp.
“We are proud to be the first club in Zimbabwe to go the digital route in terms of getting a mobile app.
“This platform will give our fans and even the media information like player profiles, statistics, the team squads for the match day, the formation and the Premiership log table.
“People who use the app can also be able to view our fixtures and results and we should also carry live match updates,” said Kujoka.
Kujoka said they have had a test run for the past month and are confident that they will get 30 000 subscribers by the end of the year.
“There are paid-up adverts on each page and that could help to generate a little revenue but we are being driven by the need to get to the fans than the business side.
“A page on the club’s history is also available and we could also carry pre-match and post-match interviews,” said Kujoka.
CAPS United communications executive Joyce Kapota said they have already identified administrators of their digital platform.
“Communication is going digital and that is the route that we have also taken as CAPS United. Our fans can access relevant information about the club through their mobile phones.
“People can pay using Paypal or EcoCash and we make adjustments as we go along,” said Kapota.
The club’s skipper, Tapiwa Khumbuyani, who was present at the launch, said he was glad that the Green Machine were taking the lead in embracing digital technology.
On Sunday, CAPS United will play Highlanders in a Castle Lager Premiership match at the National Sports Stadium where further demonstrations on the app will be made to the supporters.
