CAPS United will literally go green today when they hold a special tree planting ceremony at which they will also unveil part of their squad for the 2014 campaign. CAPS United marketing and communications executive, Joyce Kapota, yesterday said they were going to parade their squad for this season as well as some members of their technical staff.
Taurai Mangwiro has already committed himself to be at the Harare giants this season while former Arcadia United and Black Aces captain Mike Madzivanyika could be coming in as one of the assistant coaches.
Mangwiro has also recommended Mkhupali Masuku as one of his assistant coaches.
“We are going to unveil our squad tomorrow at the tree planting ceremony. The event will start with a walk from Marimba Shops in Belvedere and to the National Sports Stadium.
“I hope many of our players will be present for the occasion and we are expecting the Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture (Tabitha Kanengoni-Malinga) to be the guest of honour,” said Kapota.
CAPS United resumed their preparations for this season when they held trials for new players at Italian Sports Club on Wednesday with over 90 players trying their luck.
Among the players who turned up for trials were former Dynamos stars James Matola, Evans Gwekwerere and Eddie Mashiri.
Mangwiro hinted that he only wanted three players from the scores who came for trials.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe league champions Dynamos are set to play Black Rhinos in a friendly match at the National Sports Stadium this afternoon. The match starts at 3pm.
Dynamos team manager Richard Chihoro said they are using the game assess their players ahead of the African Champions League preliminary round tie against Mochudi Centre Chiefs of Botswana next month.
Chihoro said the league champions had wanted to engage How Mine, who are playing in the Confederation Cup, but the Bulawayo side said they could not afford to travel to Harare for now.
