CAPS United legend Torindo donates kit to Highfield Academy

sets of soccer kit to the upcoming players.
The academy, which caters for 65 players between the age of 12 and 20, received uniforms for the Under-12, Under-14 and Under-16 sides sourced by the former player who is now based in Canada.

Speaking at a presentation held at Highfield 1 High on Sunday, Torindo said he was impressed with the talent.
“I was invited to see the these young players training by my friend and I was impressed with their approach to soccer and the talent.
“It’s just a token I was given by my compatriots whom I work with and I picked Highfield. This is where I also stay.

“There is quite a lot of talent, the players are good at the basics such as ball control and passing, they have got those qualities and there is room for development because these are young players,” said Torindo.
The former CAPS United leftback, who is working with youths at schools in Canada to develop football from the grassroots level, said he was looking forward to establishing a long-term partnership with the academy.
“We want to try and create an exchange programme with those that donated and try to come up with more donations because these guys (Highfield) do not have most of the basic equipment such as cones, bibs and balls.

“We will try to pursue with the directors of the academy in that we forge a long-term relationship whereby we can make a lot of things happen in developing the players to a higher standard,” said Torindo.
Highfield Academy director, Onias Kadewere, said the donation will go a long way in complementing their efforts to promote junior football in the community.
“I am very excited. I have known this guy for a long time and he has not done this for Highfield Academy only but for the whole community.

“Most of the kids we have are underprivileged and it’s very difficult to find a sponsor for our academy so we really appreciate this donation.
“He is working towards an exchange programme and I am happy about that,” said Kadewere.
