Muyengwa, 32, died from head injuries sustained after an accident that happened while he was travelling to Zvishavane to watch the Green Machine play in the NetOne Charity Shield.
The chairman of the Harare chapter of the CAPS United supporters’ group, Onismus “Screamer” Matsika said they were still in shock.
“We are so sad as the CAPS United family after we lost our choir leader who stood by the team through think and thin,” said Matsika. “His death came as a shock. For us, as a club, it is a great loss as Muyengwa was a genuine CAPS United supporter and he was there for his club in good and very bad times.
“This year, we are looking at building a competitive team and we wanted people like Muyengwa to be there for the boys.”
Matsika thanked those who have helped the Muyengwa family during these trying times. “We thank everyone who has helped us, especially Farai Jere, who chipped in with US$1 500 and it has helped us a lot,” said Matsika.
“As supporters we also contributed through our donations and we hope this will help.”
Jere was at Muyengwa’s home in Unit O, on Sunday evening, where he paid his last respects and donated some money for use to cater for the funeral.
Yesterday, he also bought the coffin and hired a bus that will take some of the fans to Headlands for the burial of their colleague.
“Lawrence was a young man who was passionate about his team and he died while going to support CAPS United and we had to show his family that we are together, even now that he is gone, we still remain a family,” said Jere.
“We will all die at some point, it’s inevitable, but we have to support those who remain behind because our bond was not artificial and could not be destroyed by death.”
CAPS United legend, Lloyd Chitembwe, also paid his last respects.
