CAPS United veterans Method Mwanjali and Leonard Tsipa are down with injuries as the Green Machine continue to intensify preparations for the new season this weekend when they host newboys Mutare City at Gwanzura on Sunday.
Mwanjali, who is recovering from a back injury, will miss the match after he was given a week’s rest by the team’s doctors.
The new captain was stretchered off midway during the ZNA Charities quarter final match against Harare City at Rufaro last week after he landed awkwardly.
Makepekepe continued with their training yesterday but Mwanjali was joined on the sidelines by Tsipa and midfielder Tafadzwa Rusike who are also in the casualty ward.
Tsipa was unlucky not to get a goal against Harare City after his strike, from a rebound, was strangely ruled out for offside when television replays clearly showed that he was on side.
Team manager Shakespeare Chinogwenya said the injuries were not serious.
“Everything is going on well in terms of our pre-season training. The team is coming up and on Sunday we are looking forward to another practice match against Mutare City.
“Probably the only worry at the moment is Method Mwanjali, who is recovering from a back injury. He landed badly a few days ago but he has been healing well.
“It’s only that he was given a week of rest by the doctors but as for Rusike and Tsipa we have been monitoring them and we may need to look at them again tomorrow (today) to see if they can play on Sunday,” said Chinogwenya.
Apart from the injury scares, Makepekepe have had a sound pre-season training.
Recently they were in Mozambique where they held a 10-day training camp and played a couple of practice matches against local sides.
The Green Machine have invested in a number of new players that include Allen Gahadzikwa, Devon Chafa, Archford Gutu, Cabby Kamhapa, Denis Dauda and Rusike with the hopes of fighting for the title.
They will open their campaign this year with a home match against Chapungu.
