Car dealer up for $2 million fraud

A HARARE car dealer appeared in court yesterday facing fraud charges involving $2 million.

Luka Mayana, 55, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

He was given $50 000 bail and remanded to October 10.

It is the State’s case that sometime in July, Mayana, in connivance with his accomplice Terrence Manjenga, misrepresented facts to the complainant at Karigamombe Building that he was selling his Mercedes Benz C class model for $2 million.

The complainant fell for the con, after being shown the car by Mayana.

After payment, the State said the complainant sent proof of payment and requested Mayana to deliver the car.

But, he didn’t.

The complainant realised that he had been defrauded and reported the matter to the police.
