Car dealer up for fraud

Court Reporters
A car dealer yesterday appeared in court facing charges of defrauding a woman of US$2 200 after he sold her car and pocketed a significant portion of the money.Amon Paradza (43) who operates Selous Car Sales in Harare swindled Saino Ruth Rhoti from Mazowe in breach of a trust agreement which required him to pay the car owner US$3 500.

Prosecutor Mr Tungamirai Chakurira told the court that on February 26 Rhoti gave Paradza a Mazda 626 Sedan which she commissioned him to sell on her behalf. Paradza allegedly sold the car after two weeks and gave Rhoti US$1 300 through her sister, Lilian Chakabva, which fell short of the agreed amount by US$2 200.

After paying the initial US$1 300, Paradza became evasive and failed to pay the outstanding amount. A report was made to the police and he was arrested on September 2.  Harare magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma deferred the matter to September 8.
