Car theft cases surge

Crime Reporter
An increase in theft of cars has been recorded in Harare with most of the criminals targeting smaller vehicles which they later use as pirate taxis.

Although statistics were not available, The Herald understands that police have managed to arrest several suspects in connection with such cases.

Most of the suspects were recently released from various prisons under the Presidential Amnesty.

National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said he was yet to get the details of the cases.

However, police sources said the criminals have been targeting motorists after being offered a lift while others stole parked cars, especially in overnight car parks.
