COMEDIAN Carl Joshua Ncube has begun his attempt to break the Guinness book of records of “Most stand up comedy performances in seven days”.
According to Guinness, the comedy gigs must take more than 30 minutes and must be performed before a paying audience at a recognised venue, which normally stages comedy nights.
Ncube who is now in Bulawayo started his mission last Wednesday with two shows at Beer House and Capetown Comedy Club in Capetown before connecting to Johannesburg for another show at Goliath Comedy Club.
The comedian seems to have his notes right as he caught SABC’s attention and was featured on their breakfast show – Expresso during his stay in that country. He took time to share his ambition to break the world record with Graeme Richards.
Feedback from his feature on Expresso was encouraging. One Fatima Peterson wrote on the Expresso Facebook page: “Was watching this guy. He is hilarious. That was the best dip…AWESOME!!!”
Leanda Mitchell posted: “I don’t know when last I laughed so loud that I’m sure neighbours could hear me. This man is hilarious. That’s the best Ouma dip ever lol.”
The Guinness record is held by an Australian comedian Mark Murphy, who set the record in 2007 when he staged 30 gigs at 30 venues in seven days all over Australia. The ambitious Ncube targets 35 performances at 35 venues across 12 cities in four countries in seven days.
Today, it will be Bulawayo’s turn to assist Ncube make history as he performs at Copa Cubana, Nesbitt Castle and Pub Lagondola. He will conclude his mission in Victoria Falls with four shows at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, Africa Cafe, Shearwater Cafe, Lookout Cafe and Cresta Spray View.
