City DJs jockey for new clubs

THE recent opening of new nightspots in Bulawayo is a welcome development for DJs who are seeking greener pastures.

Last month, Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC) reopened its doors as BAC Leisure alongside Private Lounge, Copa Cubana and last week it was Club 263 (formerly Cloud 9).

DJs started to move to these new clubs forcing their former paymasters to shuffle their weekend entertainment line ups.

After a year at Club Eden, popular DJ Kead Wikead has left the establishment and is now resident at Club 263.

Interestingly, DJ Slamma who had left Club Eden sometime this year under mysterious circumstances, has bounced back. Slamma now joins DJs Keezy and Kananjo.

DJ Tick Tock who had left the Casino Bar to look for greener pastures at BAC Leisure has also made a u-turn and returned to Casino. DJ Nospa who is with BAC is said to be contemplating leaving the joint.

When Private Lounge opened, DJs Emity Smooth and Mellow T switched and are now resident at Club 263.

Some DJs said the new joints were offering better packages hence many of them were moving to these new clubs.

Chronicle Showbiz established that rates for DJs in Bulawayo range from $60 to $250 per session. Those who are employed full time have salaries that range from $150 to $400 per month.

DJ Kead Wikead said he left Club Eden to seek greener pastures.

DJ Slamma said: “I’m back at Eden and all I can say is that I’m happy with the move. The management there called me back. I’d to leave BAC because of one or two things that I don’t want to delve into,” said Slamma who once played at Horizon Night Club.

DJ Tick Tock said he left BAC Leisure over money issues.

“I’ve left BAC because of misunderstandings over money with management. I was barely getting paid and they still owe me. At times I’m a guest DJ at the DC as well as Groove,” said Tick Tock. — @bonganinkunzi.
