THE Zifa Southern Region League has rescheduled the tie between ZPC Hwange and Casmyn FC to a later date after the Bulawayo-based team was involved in a road accident en route to the coal mining town on Saturday morning. Casmyn failed to fulfil their fixture against the electricity generators when the minibus transporting the team’s players and officials to Hwange was extensively damaged after hitting a donkey at Gwamba Valley close to St Luke’s along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road.
The league match had been set for Saturday afternoon.
Zifa Southern Region chairman Musa Mandaza said the executive would convene a meeting to set a new date for the tie.
“We received a report that Casmyn FC failed to fulfil their match against ZPC Hwange and upon investigation we learnt that they were involved in an accident along the way. That means we’ve to reschedule the match although we’re yet to sit down as an executive to set the new date,” said Mandaza.
Casmyn was fourth on the league table with 32 points while ZPC Hwange was just one place below and a single point behind the gold miners.
Casmyn club secretary Ishmael Mubi said they have to forget about the accident and focus on their upcoming games as they plan to remain within reach of the pacesetters.
“We had an accident on Saturday on our way to Hwange and couldn’t continue with our journey, but we’ve now heard that the fixture has been rescheduled, which is good for us because we had prepared hard for the game. We promise our fans that we’ll repay the faith they’ve in us and are working hard to gain promotion to the Premier Soccer League,” said Mubi.
Casmyn gained promotion into the Southern Region League on a technicality after Magwegwe Pirates was expelled for failing to pay their affiliation fees.
The top three teams in Division Two, Bulawayo City, who were then known as Bulawayo Golden Stars, Magwegwe Pirates and Zim Leopards were promoted to the Southern Region League.
However, Magwegwe Pirates failed to pay the $2,500 affiliation fees on time to take up their place in the league resulting in them being expelled and replaced by Casmyn, who had finished fourth.
