THE 2014 52nd edition of the prestigious Castle Tankard Horse Race will take place at the Borrowdale Racecourse this afternoon.
Brewing company Delta Beverages through their Castle Lager brand injected $50,000 into this year’s competition with 18 horses taking part.
The 2,000m race will have Captain’s Tiger, Madigan Ginepri and Super Trouper once again return to the starting stalls and will be joined by 15 other horses.
Last year the A King I Born romped to victory in the event that had 16 runners.
This year one local runner, Forty One, is taking part with the rest coming from abroad.
Argentina has provided three runners in Orbit War, Coltrane and Ginepri who won last Year’s OK Grand Challenge.
Last year’s Triple Crown winner Captain’s Tiger who had lost his form may return to conquer again in the field.
Approval Rating who won last year’s HIRB Gold Cup Print will also be in the thick of things.
It will be the five-year-old former Kenya based’s chance to cause a challenge to the competitive field.
