GWERU City entertain FC Platinum Under-19s in their first home game of the season in a Zifa Central Division One Soccer League encounter at Wilson Grounds today.City’s first home game against financially troubled Town United failed to take place after the Beitbridge side failed to travel.
Both teams are yet to win after “Chiwororo,” as Gweru City are affectionately known, managed a one-all draw against Correctional Services side, Hwahwa. The young platinum miners had identical 1-1 draws against Vumbachikwe and MSU in their opening two games.
Chiwororo however, have four points after they were awarded a walkover against Town United.
City gaffer Jeremiah Neganda whose side are the dark horses in the championship race said he was eager for his first win of the season.
“We are going all out for three points. I am confident that my boys will come to the party this time around after the draw against Hwahwa,” he said.
The newcomers will be looking to former Hardbody striker Owen Motsi and Cornilius Makopa for inspiration. The young platinum miners mentor, Jairos Tapera, said his charges are not under any pressure to perform and will be playing to enjoy themselves.
“We are a development side and what we want is to get the best out of the youngsters. Three quarters of the players came from Guinea Fowl High School so for them to draw against seasoned teams like Vumbachikwe and MSU is commendable. We do not want to put pressure on them but we want them to enjoy the game,” he said.
In other matches Silo United entertain MSU at Mbizo in which the varsity side will be looking to collect their first set of maximum points.
