HIGHLANDERS FC vice-chairman Sikhanyiso Moyo who is seeking another term in office has said transparency and accountability are essential in anyone aspiring to serve the club.
Moyo is part of seven candidates vying for the vice-chairman’s position.
Other members targeting the hotly contested seat are Nkosinathi Ncube, Joel Mahlangu, Mgcini Mpofu, Leroy Maplanka, Wisdom Mabhena and Frank Moyo.
Clashes continue for fifth day in Egypt
Police have fired tear-gas at protesters in downtown Cairo, just hours after President Mohamed Morsi declared a state of emegency and a curfew in three Suez Canal cities.
Yesterday was the fifth consecutive day of street violence in Egypt. There were reports that one person was killed; he was not taking part in the protests, but was hit by a stray gunshot.
Protests began last week to mark the second anniversary of the revolution that toppled longtime president Hosni Mubarak; nearly 50 people have been killed so far.
Parents petition Minister over extra lessons

PARENTS from Bulawayo who are complaining about teachers cashing in on extra lessons, have presented a petition to the Ministry of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture.
The petition was presented to the ministry’s deputy Minister, Dr Lazarus Dokora, at a Zanu-PF rally at Stanley Square in Makokoba on Sunday.

MAMELODI Sundowns FC flew into Bulawayo convinced that they will get a good test against the best when they face Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium in a friendly international match tomorrow.
Trott Moloto, the club’s head of technical, said they were happy with their choice of Highlanders for the first match.
“We want to test ourselves against the best. We are quite happy with our choice of Highlanders for our first game. They are one of the oldest clubs and have a very good history,” said Moloto.

Bosso board survives ouster

THE Highlanders FC board survived ouster by a whisker after members blasted them over the way they handled the issue of former treasurer Odiel Nkomo who was alleged to have embezzled club funds.
Highlanders’ bona fide members had been eagerly awaiting the outcome of the forensic audit carried out by Grant Thornton auditors which revealed that there were financial irregularities at the club which were caused by lack of proper accounting systems at the club.
‘Butcheries endangering customers’ lives’

POLICE destroyed about four tonnes of unwholesome and uninspected meat while 1 122 butcheries were shut down for operating illegally last year.
Speaking at a police crime awareness campaign in Bulawayo on Friday, National Anti-Stock theft national coordinator Assistant Commissioner Bernard Dumbura said eight abattoirs and 800 food outlets were also shut down for unhealthy practices that endangered the lives of customers.
