SOME tobacco farmers have started delivering their crop to auction floors ahead of the 2013 marketing season that starts mid next month.
The Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board announced on Friday that the 2013 auction tobacco marketing season opens on 13 February with contract sales starting the following day.

Minister of Local Government, Rural and Urban Development, Dr Ignatius Chombo yesterday said the Bulawayo City Council has declared war on him by refusing to swear in Mr Fidelis Fengu as a special interest councillor.
Minister Chombo gave the council a directive on 22 November last year to swear in Mr Fengu as a special interest councillor for people with disabilities, but the local authority barred him from assuming office.

THE Highlanders FC board survived ouster by a whisker after members blasted them over the way they handled the issue of former treasurer Odiel Nkomo who was alleged to have embezzled club funds.
Highlanders’ bona fide members had been eagerly awaiting the outcome of the forensic audit carried out by Grant Thornton auditors which revealed that there were financial irregularities at the club which were caused by lack of proper accounting systems at the club.
‘Butcheries endangering customers’ lives’

POLICE destroyed about four tonnes of unwholesome and uninspected meat while 1 122 butcheries were shut down for operating illegally last year.
Speaking at a police crime awareness campaign in Bulawayo on Friday, National Anti-Stock theft national coordinator Assistant Commissioner Bernard Dumbura said eight abattoirs and 800 food outlets were also shut down for unhealthy practices that endangered the lives of customers.

PSA to meet Apex Council over new negotiating team

PUBLIC Service Association (PSA) president, Mrs Cecilia Alexander, has agreed to meet the Apex Council led by Mr David Dzatsunga this week, to form a new negotiating team that will spearhead civil servants’ salary negotiations.
Government turned down civil servants unions’ request to recognise the old Apex Council, leading to the Apex Council led by Mr Dzatsunga to call for a meeting that is expected to come up with a new negotiating team.
