Another city firm closes shop

ANOTHER Bulawayo firm, Ascot Clothing, has been placed under liquidation while workers from Belmor Manufacturers yesterday scrambled to grab machinery that the company sold to them by auction.

Belmor Manufacturers closed shop last week citing viability problems and offloaded about 300 workers.

The workers were given their retrenchment packages on Friday.

Mnangagwa on ‘rivalry’ with Mujuru

Defence Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa has said claims of bad blood between him and Vice-President Joice Mujuru were a creation of the media as he enjoyed cordial relations with the Vice-President.

He dismissed claims that he was leading a faction within Zanu-PF which was opposed to Vice-President Mujuru, also alleged to be leading another faction within the ruling party.

Minister Mnangagwa and VP Mujuru are often reported in the private media to be leading rival factions in Zanu-PF in their bids to succeed President Mugabe.

In an interview after the launch of the Week Without Violence outreach programme organised by Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) in Gweru at the weekend where he was guest of honour, Minister Mnangagwa said Zanu-PF was a revolutionary party which could not afford to be run by factions.

O-Level exams begin

Ordinary Level examinations are starting today, with examination papers having been dispatched to all centres countrywide.
The examination papers include the ones that were withdrawn and reset by the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) after the acting headmaster of Sijawugwe Secondary School, Mr Panganai Zimunhu (31), allegedly lost them two weeks ago.

The school is located in the Siganda area of Bubi District in Matabeleland North Province.

There was a momentary panic when the incident was first reported, as candidates feared that the O-Level examinations would be postponed.
