Cement prices fall

Freeman Razemba and Mary Kashumba
CEMENT prices that reached a peak of US$22 per 50kg bag recently as dealers cashed in on shortages spawned by a plant  breakdown at one of the country’s major producers have dropped drastically as supplies firm.
Cement is now selling at between US$12,50 and US$15 per bag.

There was a near stampede at Mohammed Mussa Wholesalers as customers jostled to buy cement at US$12,50 per 50kg bag of PC15.
Though cement was still selling at high prices in Msasa and Magaba, indications were that prices were falling after customers heeded advice from cement producers to shun profiteers.
A further reduction in prices is expected as hardwares continue receiving supplies.
